The Hobie Kayak is a revolutionary piece of watersport equipment, very safe, easy and fun to use they allow the user to explore the waterways and scenery of Scotland with ease. Developed in California and now imported to the UK, these sit on kayaks give all the thrill of normal paddle sports with the added advantage of also having peddles, these provide power and flexibility and the chance for some serious enjoyment on the water. The Hobie MirageDrive system fitted to our kayaks means that any one of any ability is able to just jump in and go!

Here’s how the MirageDrive works:
You pedal by stepping alternately left and right, not unlike an exercise stepper, to drive two underwater flippers. They work much like a penguins fins to propel the Hobie Mirage with surprising speed and ease. Using your leg muscles you can produce more powerful propulsion than using your arms; the drive system allows you to move through the water much faster and more efficiently than paddling. In fact in a “tug-of-war” between a single Hobie Mirage and a tandem paddled kayak, the Hobie Mirage wins hands-down (pun intended). All of which lets you get into kayaking…feet first |
