Fife Tour
|
The ancient Kingdom of Fife has always been at the heart of Scottish history and still cherishes its wealth of castles and palaces, cathedrals and gardens. Tour Itinerary
Our journey will begin at the historic seaside village of North Queensferry (directly under both the Forth Road and Rail Bridges) then move onto Dunfermline the ancient capital of Scotland, boasting a royal palace, a 12th Century Abbey – the final resting place of King Robert the Bruce – the restored 15th Century Abbot House and the cave in which St Margaret prayed. Steeped in so much history you’ll struggle to know where to start! We move onto the town of Dysart and travel east along a section of the Fife Coastal Route to St Andrews, visiting some of the picturesque historic fishing villages and stopping for lunch along the way. St Andrews becomes the destination for our overnight stay, and also allowing for the opportunity to partake in some of the night life. St Andrews also allows for the chance to try out some Quad Biking, take a Rib Ride, and go Skydiving. Next day shake off the cobwebs with a visit to the exceptional Kinshaldy Beach and Tentsmuir Forest and nature reserve (great for a bit of cycling or trying out your pedalling skills in our Hobie Kayaks) then through East Fife villages to Falkland and the Falkland Estate. Also with the chance to visit Falkland Palace, the only Royal Palace in the care of the National Trust for Scotland, built by James IV and James V between 1450 and 1541, Mary Queen of Scots spend many a happy year here as a child, and is considered by some as one of the most romantic spots in Scotland. The journey then continues through the Lomond Hills to the town on Kinross and the banks of Loch Leven and Loch Leven Castle, where Mary Queen of Scots was imprisoned in 1567.
